1933 Sox’s Jimmy Dykes scores the first run in All-Star Game history, coming home on a two-out second-inning single by Yankees pitcher Lefty Gomez.

1936 Cubs’ Augie Galan hits the first All-Star homer by a Chicago player as the NL wins for the first time 4-3. Galan is one of six Cubs chosen for the game.

1941 Sox’s Edgar Smith becomes Chicago’s first All-Star Game winning pitcher, thanks to Ted Williams’ game-ending three-run homer off the Cubs’ Claude Passeau.

1952 In a game shortened to five innings by rain, a two-run homer by the Cubs’ Hank Sauer is the difference and gives the victory to teammate Bob Rush.

1953 The NL wins 5-1, but its shutout bid is broken up in the ninth when the Sox’s Minnie Minoso singles home teammate Ferris Fain with two outs.

1954 Nellie Fox, one of seven Sox players selected for the game, delivers a two-out bases-loaded single in the eighth to break a 9-9 tie and give the AL an 11-9 victory.

1955 The Sox’s Billy Pierce does his part by opening with three scoreless innings before the NL wins 6-5 in the 12th on Stan Musial’s home run.

1957 Minoso, playing left field, throws out a runner at third base for the second out of the ninth inning and then makes a running catch of Gil Hodges’ liner to preserve the AL’s 6-5 victory.

1960 The Cubs’ Ernie Banks caps a three-run first inning with a two-run homer off Boston’s Bill Monboquette and later adds a double to help the NL win the first of two 1960 All-Star Games.

1961 In 1961’s first All-Star Game, Cubs’ George Altman hits a pinch home run off Boston’s Mike Fornieles in the eighth inning, giving the NL a 3-1 lead in a contest it eventually wins in 10.

1965 The Cubs’ Ron Santo breaks a 5-5 tie in the seventh with a single off Cleveland’s Sam McDowell, scoring Willie Mays with the game’s last run.

1967 In a 15-inning game played in Anaheim’s late afternoon and twilight and won by the NL 2-1, the Sox’s Gary Peters works three perfect innings, striking out four, and the Cubs’ Fergie Jenkins–though allowing a homer to Brooks Robinson–strikes out an All-Star record-tying six in his three innings.

1969 The entire Cubs infield–Santo, Don Kessinger, Glenn Beckert and Banks–plus catcher Randy Hundley are named to the NL team. Santo and Kessinger are starters.

1970 The Cubs’ Jim Hickman singles in Pete Rose with the winning run in the 12th, though Rose’s slide into Ray Fosse is remembered far more than Hickman’s hit.

1978 The Cubs’ Bruce Sutter retires all five batters and gets the win as the NL rallies for four in the eighth.

1987 The Cubs’ Rick Sutcliffe (two) and Lee Smith (three) contribute five scoreless innings to the NL, which prevails 2-0 in 13.

1991 The Sox’s Jack McDowell works a scoreless fifth and sixth innings for the victorious AL. The Cubs’ Andre Dawson homers in defeat.

1995 A two-run homer by the Sox’s Frank Thomas–the first All-Star Game homer by a Sox player–puts the AL up 2-0 in the fourth before the NL rallies to win 3-2. The Cubs’ Randy Myers pitches a scoreless ninth for the save.

2001 The Sox’s Magglio Ordonez homers and singles in three at-bats in the AL’s 4-1 victory.

2002 A two-run double by the Sox’s Paul Konerko in the seventh, his second double of the game, puts the AL up 6-5 in a game that ends after 11 inning in a 7-7 tie.
