The National Merit Scholarship Corp. of Evanston has announced more winners of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for 2003, including 45 students from the Chicago area. The awards provide from $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.
In addition, five Chicago-area students won college-sponsored Achievement Scholarships last month through the scholarship corporation’s National Achievement Scholarship Program for promising African-American youths. They will receive similar financial awards.
Winners were announced earlier this year for corporate-sponsored scholarships, the National Merit $2,500 Scholarships and more college-sponsored scholarships.
Winners are chosen from 16,000 semifinalists who were selected on the basis of standardized test scores.
