President Bush’s blaming the CIA for providing him with erroneous information about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq (“Tenet takes blame for false claim; Chief says CIA should not have cleared Bush’s speech,” Page 1, July 12) shows either one of two things: that he is using George Tenet as his administration’s scapegoat, or that he has a grave inability to accurately communicate with other departments.
Democrats should be using this as ammunition for their 2004 campaign. With Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and others saying they can understand how Bush may have been misled, Democrats are ruining an opportunity to help their already crippled platform.
