– A free defensive-driving course for 15- to 21-year-old drivers will be held Aug. 2 at the Odeum Sports & Expo Center, 1033 N. Villa Avenue, Villa Park. The four-hour course, with start times of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., includes classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training in skid control, panic braking and evasive maneuvers. The courses are presented by Driver’s Edge, a non-profit organization, and sponsored by Bridgestone Tire LLC and AAA. Participants must have a valid driver’s permit or license. – The North Shores Rods Joliet will hold its 25th Anniversary Charity Car Show Aug. 10 at Van Horn Woods in Plainfield. Registration runs from 8 a.m. to noon and awards are presented at 2:30 p.m. for cars from 1948 to 1964. There also will be a display area for cars from 1965 and newer. Show-car entry is $15, $5 of which will benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. Spectator admission is $1 and free for children younger than 16. – The Illinois Jaguar Club will hold its Concours on Aug. 9 at Marriott’s Lincolnshire Resort, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Car displays begin at 8 a.m., with judging from noon to 4 p.m., and the event is open to the public. Registration is $50 per car, plus $15 each for additional cars. Entry into the non-judging display class is $10 per car. Cost for the award banquet is an additional $40-$48, depending on choice of meal.
