The Township Board appointed John Aguilar as its newest member.
But because the appointment was not listed on the meeting agenda, the board might have violated the Illinois Open Meetings Act, which requires all agenda items to be posted 48 hours in advance, said Supervisor Jim Murphy, who voted against the appointment.
Murphy, a Democrat, said he also was concerned that Trustee Ralph Voris had submitted his resignation only one day before the appointment and Trustee John Shoemaker, the only other Democrat on the board, was not present.
He also said seven applicants who applied for an earlier opening were not notified and Trustee Thomas Rosebush wasn’t present when the applicants were interviewed.
The board voted 3-1 for approval of the appointment.
Aguilar, 36, a personnel manager at an Elk Grove Village firm and member of three volunteer boards, will replace Voris, whose resignation was effective Wednesday. Voris has moved to Oswego.
The board this month appointed Rosebush, a Kane County sheriff’s sergeant, to take the spot of Meyers, who was appointed clerk after John Peters resigned when he was elected to the Aurora City Council.
