A 49-year-old construction worker on the North Side was killed Wednesday afternoon when a plank fell on top of him, police said.
The construction worker was on the ground at about 2:15 p.m. as a crane lifted a platform filled with buckets of cement in the 2700 block of North Clark Street, police spokesperson Carlos Herrera said.
A plank from the platform fell, striking the construction worker in the head, police said. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m., a spokesman from the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
The U.S. Occupation Safety and Health Administration will conduct an investigation, police said.
