Gently bouncing a baby is one of the best ways to soothe her, as many a parent knows. But pacing and bouncing a screaming infant can be exhausting. In Parenting magazine recently, mom Dana McMahan of Richmond, Calif., tells how her husband, Josh, devised a way to bounce a baby that totally rocks:
“Josh figured that if he was going to bounce, he might as well sit down. So he sat on a large fitness ball and held [their infant twins] in the crook of each arm, with their heads against his chest. It worked so well that we’ve used it ever since!” (A Q staffer also swears by this technique.)
Other parents suggested stepping up and down on a stair-climbing machine; running the vacuum; running water; placing the baby in her seat on top of the clothes dryer and turning it on (stay very close); even taking the baby to a noisy restaurant.
