This is in response to “Ditching dreaded SAT analogies” (Editorial, Aug. 11). Your criticism that students are not prepared to write the handwritten essays on the test, since they do not write those essays in class, is a fallacious argument, considering the fact that the point of the SATs is to determine how well students will do in college. At the university level, students will be writing many handwritten essays in class for their examinations. Thus the change in the SAT format is conducive to its purpose of gauging how high school students will do in college. Granted analogies help with vocabulary, but being able to write clearly is certainly more helpful than having a silver tongue. Thus the change is a laudable one.
