Not only do the working poor need and deserve higher wages, but they benefit the economy by spending much more of what they earn than rich people do. Business executives’ claims that they’ll have to fire people because they can’t dole out a lousy 50 cents more per hour would have made Ebenezer Scrooge very proud.
