The 112-year-old feud between the Cubs and Cardinals has had more than its share of moments

1) June 23, 1984

Cubs 12, Cards 11

In a game many might list as the most entertaining, the Cardinals blew two six-run leads. Ryne Sandberg hit game-tying home runs in the ninth and 10th before the Cubs finally won on a single by someone named Dave Owen.

2) Aug. 19, 1998

Cards 8, Cubs 6

This wasn’t about a pennant race, it was about a home run race. With both players chasing Roger Maris’ single-season home run record, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire met face to face at Wrigley, sharing the major-league lead with 47 bombs. Sosa hit one, but McGwire hit two on his way to 70. Sosa finished with 66.

3) May 13, 1958

Cards 5, Cubs 3

“Swing, and there it is …” Those were the words an excited Harry Caray relayed into the radio microphone as Stan “the Man” Musial posted his 3,000th hit in front of a tiny crowd of some 6,000 on a Tuesday afternoon at Wrigley.

4) Sept 7-9, 1973

Cubs win pair

The Cards led the NL East with a 72-68 record, with the Mets, Pirates, Cubs and Expos in hot pursuit. The Cubs won the first game 8-2 behind Burt Hooton and won the second game 3-1 as Don Kessinger snapped a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring single in the seventh and Ron Santo homered for insurance in the eighth.
