SAN FRANCISCO The Bears had no defense for the 49ers–or for their poor performance Sunday in a 49-7 loss.
Jeff Garcia, recovering from a bulging disc in his back, completed 19-of-35 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns. He also slashed for 36 yards on seven carries and another TD.
Part of the Bears’ game plan was to create turnovers. And when safety Mike Brown intercepted a Garcia pass to set up a second-quarter touchdown that closed the Bears deficit’ to 10-7, the plan began to develop.
But the Bears gave the ball back quickly on a turnover that the 49ers turned into a 3-yard Garcia TD run.
“Hopefully we can put this one behind us,” Urlacher said. “It was ugly out there. I don’t think we did anything well.”
The 49ers converted 8-of-16 third-down situations.
“San Francisco was ready, and they executed their game plan, and we didn’t,” defensive tackle Bryan Robinson said. “And that goes on both sides of the ball.”
The Bears’ travel Sunday to play Minnesota, which ran up 30 points in its win at Green Bay.
