Getting the boot has never felt so good.

From tough-girl luxe to mod chic, fall’s boots are not just made for walking. It is a season of irony and opposites: luxe croc and weathered leather, rounded toe vs. pointy, glitzy, spike “disco” heel vs. the casual, flat apres ski boot.

With fall’s schizoid styles–mega minis, ’60s shifts, cropped bomber jackets and suave exec suiting–working in tandem, the stylish must have a spike heel for every micro-kilt mood and a sassy, reptilian ankle boot for each menswear-inspired moment. Thigh-high, cuffed-over-the-knee boots extend and glorify the short-skirted leg. Hardware-enhanced motorcycle boots are must-haves for jeans and leather ensembles. Going retro? Get thee a mid-calf, suede, lace-detailed boot.

Here are the of-the-moment boots to provide up-to-the-minute style:

Simple elegance: Kate Spade “Looker” boot (above), $435, Kate Spade, 101 E. Oak St.

Super luxe: Jimmy Choo, crocodile “Elf” (right) and moire silk “Lourdes” (left) boots, $710 and $795, Saks Fifth Avenue.

Alpine chic, city sleek: Coach “Andi” boot (right), $330, Coach, 625 N. Michigan Ave.

Riding the season in style: Bottega Veneta “Gitane” motorcycle boot (left), $700, Bottega Veneta, 840 N. Michigan Ave.
