– Pontiac confirms that the replacement for the Grand Am due next fall as a 2005 model will be called G6, the name of the concept car displayed this year. Pontiac will unveil the production version of the G6 sedan in January at the Detroit Auto Show and introduce coupe and convertible models later.

– General Motors’ minivans will have new names for the 2005 model year to go with new styling that incorporates sport-utility vehicle attributes. Chevrolet will replace the Venture name with Uplander, and Pontiac will call its version the Montana SV6, for “sport van” with a V-6 engine. Buick and Saturn will add models called the Terraza and Relay, respectively.

– Porsche has sold more than 20,000 Cayennes since the sport-utility vehicle went on sale in March. The company’s total sales for the fiscal year ended July 31 were 66,803, up 22 percent from a year earlier. Porsche beat its sales goal of 65,000 though sales of the 911 and Boxster sports cars fell to 46,200 from 54,234 in the previous year. Cayenne accounted for 20,603 sales through July 31.
