For efficient world travel, it was hard to beat the 1933-34 Chicago World’s Fair. Here, within the exhibition’s 427 acres, you could visit Holland, Italy, China, Peru, Mexico, Switzerland, France, Spain, England, Germany and, yes, Tunisia, whose exhibit included a snake charmer and this ship of the desert. You could visit exhibits devoted to other forms of transportation–the railroad, automobile and airplane– and even take a plane ride for $3.
