File sharing is illegal but no more illegal than the Recording Industry Association of America’s monopolistic activity (“Swapping, sharing … it’s stealing,” Editorial, Sept. 10). The RIAA has never been forced to defend itself in court against an “unclean hands” defense, which would bar it from enforcing its copyrights. Napster tried–against the RIAA’s furious objections–but ran out of money before a California judge could consider it.
But anyone with their eyes open knows that when manufacturing CDs is virtually cost free and prices skyrocket rather than plummet, something isn’t right.
