According to Tribune staff reporter Oscar Avila, in an article on immigration (“Immigrants pay 9/11 price, activists say,” Metro, Sept. 9), advocates for immigrants and Muslims and for civil liberties argued that the crackdown on terror ” . . . ensnared immigrants whose only violation was working illegally.”
Considering that the North American Free Trade Agreement took away thousands of blue-collar jobs, and that tech jobs are moving overseas, perhaps that attitude is one of the major reasons Americans support immigration reductions in the first place.
