John Mayer hit No. 1 for the first time with his new album, “Heavier Things.” The disc sold 316,500 copies in the U.S. in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Previously, Mayer hadn’t been higher than No. 8, a peak reached earlier this year by his album “Room for Squares.”
