Coach Ron Turner believes fullback Carey Davis will provide an enormous lift–physically and psychologically–when he returns to the lineup Saturday against Wisconsin after missing the last three games because of a staph infection. “You can’t measure his value,” Turner said. “He is the leader of this team, no question. He brings a ton of intangibles, experience and ability. Some [magazines] picked him the second-best fullback in the country. He’s a good blocker, he’s a good receiver out of the backfield, he can carry the ball.” . . . The coach likes what he saw from Alan Ball when the freshman safety made his collegiate debut in last week’s loss to California: “Alan is a really good athlete, a really smart kid–he seems to be a game-type player.”
