I am no fan of the current White Sox manager–he disdains the bunt with two men on base and nobody out–but the blame for the team’s demise rests with the K boys. Paul Konerko and Billy Koch have just plain stunk from Opening Day. Konerko, fixing his batting gloves after every pitch, hasn’t a clue what to do. Koch throws that heater and hopes they will not hit a 90-92-m.p.h. fastball. Every player in the major leagues hits that speed.
What surprises me about Jerry Manuel is he came from a small-ball league. He coached under Felipe Alou, and then went to Florida, where they know how to manufacture runs. Obviously the lessons were never learned.
