Before Saturday’s loss to Minnesota, Northwestern coach Randy Walker insisted backup quarterback Alexander Webb would see increased action so the offense could benefit from his running skills. But when the offense stalled after a productive first quarter, Webb remained on the bench. He didn’t enter the game until the outcome virtually had been decided.
“Oh, I don’t know,” Walker said when asked why he stuck with starting quarterback Brett Basanez. “We really felt there were some things there in the passing game. We just wanted to get [Basanez] back on track, make some shots, get us going. They were really loading up to stop the run, and we thought we had some shots in the passing game.”
