The organizers of the Chicago Marathon apparently never considered the possibility that someone might actually have to get somewhere in the lakefront area on that Sunday morning. I tried to get from my apartment at Clark and Surf Streets to North Avenue and Wells Streets at 10 a.m. I literally could not get there from here.

Instead of having the Marathon take over city streets, why not lay out the course solely along Lake Shore Drive?

It’s certainly a lot more scenic than, say, Clark Street, and very few (if any) areas of the city would be rendered inaccessible.
