This is regarding “Southwest Side school has made huge strides; Carson can be model for others, study contends” (Metro, Oct. 6). This story about Rachel Carson Elementary School was incomplete. The school used to be Gage Park Elementary School. For more than 50 years, it graduated most of the children in the neighborhood. My wife’s grandmother used to talk about the fact that it was for many, many years the tallest building on the Southwest Side. Many of the kids with whom I went to school had mothers and fathers who were graduates.
It is nice to see the school back to its original purpose.
