Although I totally enjoyed the Cubs’ amazing season this year, the end result was sadly the same as it usually is. Which started me thinking: Maybe the problem is singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch. I know it’s heresy (Harry-sy?) to suggest this, but singing a song about what a shame it would be if we didn’t win and then ending on a line about striking out at the plate really sends the wrong message. It’s a great song, but all it does is make us more at ease with the whole “loveable losers” thing that we’re desperately trying to shake off.
