The Lions had the ball on the Bears’ 34 with 1:04 left and Jason Hanson within field-goal range.
The Bears needed a sack.
But no. Sacks apparently aren’t important enough to get, according to Greg Blache.
So the Lions got the yards they needed to set up the game-winning field goal and the Bears are still looking for their first sack in any fourth quarter this season.
Greg Blache, your plane is boarding.
Making plays? The Lions took a 3-0 lead thanks to a 26-yard completion on third down. One of those sacks that Blache doesn’t think is important might’ve been pretty important there.
Scheming: No wonder Blache doesn’t think sacks are important: He can’t even get his guys there with blitzes.
Time to go: The Bears had a 10-9 lead and the ball on their 28-yard line with less than three minutes left and called a pass play–not even play-action, just a pass play–instead of running Anthony Thomas.
No first down, no time off the clock, no nothing. Just a punt that gave the Lions the ball and the time to put together a game-winning drive.
Guess SpongeJohn SquarePants’ idea of clock management is when Mickey’s big hand is on the 0.
Just asking: We’re done with the Chris Chandler era, right?
Looking ahead: What happens now that the Bears have to play real football teams? Bring toe tags.
