Last year in Cook County, there were about 700 defendants in
sexual assault cases, said Shauna Boliker, director of the sex crimes division of the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. Only 88 of those were stranger cases.
Most of the victims were children.
Boliker said adult victims (those over the age of 17) made up 25
percent of the total.
Boliker did not have data on the number of convictions for the year.
