In response to Margaret Riggs’ Nov. 5 letter to the editor, “Freedom of choice,” in which she questions the use of the term “anti-choice,” I submit the following list of things that all women–and men–are free to choose:
– We are free to choose not to have sex unless we are in a loving, committed relationship.
– If we do not want a child, we are free to choose to abstain from sex or to use contraception (it should come as a surprise to no one that having sex is how babies are made, yet we continue to act somewhat victimized by “accidental” pregnancies).
– If we get pregnant, we are free to choose not to hide our pregnancies but to carry on with our lives in a world where out-of-wedlock pregnancy is no longer taboo.
– And at the end of our pregnancies, we are free to choose to put our babies up for adoption and make some infertile couple or single woman’s life complete.
