Chris Chandler had it, lost it and desperately needs to find it again in a hurry.
Rhythm, that is.
The 38-year-old quarterback is the conductor of the Bears’ offensive symphony. For the last two weeks the unit has been missing a beat.
Chandler connected on 16-of-32 passes for 153 yards and one touchdown in Sunday’s 23-21 loss to St. Louis. He was intercepted twice and wound up with a quarterback rating of 48.
He also struggled mightily in last week’s 12-10 loss to Detroit, hitting 16-of-28 for only 149 yards, with an interception on the Bears’ last play.
If Chandler and his receivers had been in sync, the Bears might have won the last two games and been 5-5 with legitimate playoff aspirations.
Despite Chandler’s struggles, the Bears took a 14-3 lead into the locker room, thanks to a 60-yard punt return for a TD by R.W. McQuarters and the running of Anthony Thomas, who had 23 carries for 92 yards.
