Atlanta, Jacksonville and San Diego have been eliminated from playoff contention. If you’re from there, our condolences. But just because you live in Chicago doesn’t mean you can’t follow the NFL playoffs. Here’s who can do what to whom this weekend:
AFC East
New England clinches berth with:
– NE win + KC win or tie +
DEN loss + BAL loss + CIN loss
AFC West
Kansas City clinches division title with:
– KC win + DEN loss or tie
– KC tie + DEN loss
Kansas City clinches berth with:
– KC win + MIA loss
NFC South
Carolina clinches division title with:
– CAR win + NO loss + TB loss
TWO-MINUTE DRILL (If you read slowly)
– Eagles RB Duce Staley, a three-time 1,000-yard rusher, has rushed just 64 times for 313 yards and 2 TDs. And yet his average of 4.9 yards a carry is a career best. Curious.
– Everything was close last weekend. All 16 games were decided by 13 points or less. Yes, even the Bears’ game.
– Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin leads NFL rookies with 66 receptions, 999 receiving yards and 6 TDs. That means he needs 1 yard to become 13th rookie in NFL history with 1,000 yards receiving. He might get it this weekend in Chicago.
– Chad Johnson, the Bengals WR and resident psychic, leads the AFC with 65 receptions. Just ask him. He’ll tell you.
Mandatory Bears item
As required by the Federal Bears Coverage Act of 1986.
It only seems like Bears QB Chris Chandler has played for every NFL team. He hasn’t, but he did used to play for the Cardinals and started 17 games for them from 1991 to 1993. The veteran is fighting through a sprained shoulder but needs just 60 yards and 2 TD passes to become fifth active QB with 28,000 & 170 on his career. Just one more reason not to start Kordell Stewart.
