There really are only two reasons to work toward amending the U.S. Constitution to forever forbid to same-sex couples the civil rights and social responsibilities of civil marriage:
– To incorporate essentially religious views into what should remain a non-sectarian document.
– To create a divisive issue to distract voters from more important matters during next year’s elections.
Both reasons are wrong and unworthy of this nation.
