A storm dumped almost a foot of snow on parts of Iowa by early Wednesday, snarling traffic, closing schools or delaying classes.
“We got 10 inches. We’ve had some accidents, some vehicles in the ditch–the usual winter stuff,” said Cheryl Sikora, a dispatcher with the Spencer Police Department.
She said the northwest Iowa town had been expecting snow, but not that much.
“I think 2 to 4 [inches]. So, surprise!” she said. “We lucked out the last time, so I suppose it’s our time to get dumped on.”
The Chicago area is bracing for its first taste of snow this season.
According to the National Weather Service, there will be occasional snow starting Thursday night around midnight, and continuing through Friday, although it is expected to stop before noon. Temperatures should remain in the 30s.
