John C. “Jack” Berkery, 71, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2003, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 13, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the son of John J. and Dorothy, nee Busch. Jack was united in marriage on October 25, 1952, to Louise Fagan. They spent the next 51 years of their lives happily together. Jack received his Bachelors Degree from Quincy University and then worked in sales and management for U.S. Steel Supply for 30 years. He retired in Virginia and began his own steel rep business. Jack was a man that always treated people with fairness and respect. He loved his family unconditionally, taught them to love and enjoy life and to honor the people that you love. He is survived by his wife Louise; his children, Leigh Ann (Jerry) Mortier, Timothy (Karen) Berkey, Terrence (Jody) Berkery, Linda (David) Trevelino and John Berkery. Jack was also blessed with nine beautiful grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and became “Papa” to them all. He was respected and loved by many nieces and nephews. A man of many hobbies, his favorites were photography and woodworking. He made so many wonderful gifts for all his family. An avid fisherman and bird hunter, he instilled the love of hunting and the outdoors in all of his sons and daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Jacki Moran and Pat Handley and an infant daughter, Mary Teresa.
