Doris M. Glab, a charter member of Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Elk Grove Village, led a group of church volunteers who transcribed portions of the Bible and other reading material into Braille for use in churches worldwide. Mrs. Glab, 79, who was among the first residents of Elk Grove Village when it incorporated in 1956, died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Delnor-Community Hospital, Geneva. She had lived nearly a year with family members in Geneva. Mrs. Glab was born and raised in Amberg, Wis. She graduated from Amberg Public High School in 1943 and moved to Milwaukee, where she worked for Cutler-Hammer Inc. before marrying William Glab, her late husband. The couple settled on a farm in an area that became Elk Grove Village, and Mrs. Glab became active in Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit. There she taught Sunday school and was a president of the women’s guild in addition to her transcription work for the Lutheran Braille Workers. Mrs. Glab later worked 11 years as a buyer for Littelfuse Inc., a Des Plaines manufacturer of fuses and other circuit protection devices, before retiring in 1988. “She liked to help people out regardless of who they were,” said her sister, Beatrice Rentmeester. Other survivors include a daughter, Doriann Andrews; two sons, Edward and Wallace; a brother, Paul Johnson; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Rd., Elk Grove Village, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday in Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 150 Lions Drive, Elk Grove Village. A service will follow at 10 a.m. in the church.
