Schaumburg’s convincing 72-53 home win Friday night over previously undefeated Barrington was overshadowed by an intense third-quarter incident that brought a badge-waving Schaumburg police officer racing onto the court.
With 3 minutes 26 seconds to play in the quarter, Barrington center Otis Hudson was ejected following an altercation in front of the Schaumburg bench.
The 6-foot-6-inch, 260-pound Hudson, a transfer from Marshall, wanted to get at several Schaumburg players and even pushed his own coach, Marty Dello, who had sprinted across court to settle down the Barrington newcomer.
“That behavior is not acceptable in our program,” said Dello.
“He just lost his temper and got carried away,” said Schaumburg coach Bob Williams. “Nothing was said or done by our kids.”
Schaumburg senior Craig Reichel led the Saxons (5-0, 1-0 Mid-Suburban West) with 18, while Zach Pancratz added 14 points and Laurence Bradley chipped in with 10.
Jason Richards had 18 for the Broncos (4-1, 0-1) who trailed 42-26 at halftime and by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter.
