John C. Berghoff Sr., known as Jack, age 92 years, WWII veteran, Capt., U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. Employed by Swift & Co. in Chicago for 40 years, retiring as Associate General Counsel. Born Dec. 20, 1910, in Fort Wayne, IN, and passed away suddenly Dec. 4, 2003. Graduated Hyde Park H.S. in 1928, University of Chicago in 1932, Chicago Kent College of Law in 1940. Long-time Beverly resident. Faithful Christian and member of the Beverly Evangelical Covenant Church. Member of the Men of Leisure. Former president of Beverly Improvement Association and former interim administrator of Washington & Jane Smith Home, Beverly. Former chairman of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church (governing body of Swedish Covenant Hospital and Covenant Home of Mercy). Founding member of Christian Legal Society and former member of Chicago Crime Commission. Long-time reader for Reading for the Blind. Son of late Joseph and Elizabeth, nee Colerick; cherished husband of Doris, nee Anderson, for 70 years; father of Robert (Carolyn), John Jr. (Jean) and Paul (Kathryn); brother of late Guy (Sylvia); grandfather of Robert (Heather), Christopher (Loretta) and Peter Berghoff, Sarah (Rick) Patterson, Elizabeth (Matt) Bergmann and John Berghoff III, Emily, Henry, Daniel and David Berghoff; great-grandfather of Anna, Tess and Evan Berghoff, Taylor, Samantha and Halle Berghoff, Joseph Bergmann and Sophia Patterson; uncle of Guy, William Berghoff and Gail (Fred) Blaney; cousin of Jane (Robert) Langdon. Funeral Service Monday, December 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Beverly Evangelical Covenant Church, 10545 S. Claremont Ave., Chicago, with Rev. Donald K. Nelson, Pastor officiating. Interment Mt. Hope.
