Comedy Central rewarded the best of the biz with its first ever “Commies,” but none of Sunday night’s winners had poop on Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s scathing roast.
Receiving the award for funniest smart ass, Triumph thanked Comedy Central for proving that a network could put on original programming with C- and D-level stars.
“Isn’t that right, Gilbert [Gottfried]?” Triumph said. “What did they offer you to come tonight: fishsticks and a ride home?
“Kathy Griffin. The poop I made backstage has more heat.”
Other highlights: an R&B duo singing “Somebody’s Doin’ My Lady,” Marla Gibbs winning one award because the winner was a no-show, Will Ferrell accepting his award while in bed with “Paris Hilton,” and award-winner Griffin saying “like most of you here, I [slept] my way to the middle.”

– Funniest plastic surgery: Kathy Griffin
– Funniest talk/variety series: “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”
The top award, funniest person of the year, went to Jon Stewart. The Iraqi Information Minister was robbed. Really.
