My daughter recently learned firsthand about the horror of this unjust war. She received a phone call informing her that a cousin of one of her close friends had been killed in Iraq.

Words failed me. I couldn’t comfort her and tell her that the boy had died for a just cause. I couldn’t explain what we were doing in Iraq and why that boy was even in harm’s way.

This war is wrong and just plain evil. There is no justification for it–period. There are no WMDs (weapons of mass destruction–what a horrible term), no ties to Al Qaeda, no imminent threat to America. For the first time in my life, I am ashamed to say I am an American. This is not what our country is about and I do not want to pass on this horrible legacy to my children without speaking out against it.
