It was reported in your Dec. 5 Metro section that Mayor Richard Daley thinks that winter, spring and summer breaks for college students are too long and even unnecessary.

I’m surprised that anyone who has gone to college would not recall just how much they looked forward to those breaks.

Without them, I’d wager most of us would have burned out.

College is hard work.

Perhaps, as the scion of a powerful family, Daley did not find college hard. He probably didn’t need a summer job.
