Last night, that one woman and that one guy got married on television. What are their names? Oh, right. Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter, first wedding in reality show history. Host Christ Harrison called it “the most anticipated wedding since Charles and Diana.” Um, whatever. The star of the show was the color pink.

Still, ABC covered the wedding like a sporting event, and five paparazzi helicopters added to the unpleasant spectacle.

The $3,778,000 wedding included $500,000 in flowers, two wedding dresses and two rings for Trista. The only cute touch was to have the flower girls pull the ring bearer in a fire engine, a nod to Ryan’s profession. One of many poor decisions? Mid-ceremony they did an art project–layering sand in a vase to symbolize something or other.

The telecast was bloated beyond belief. Ryan enters … then commercial. Here come bridesmaids … and commercial? Finally, Trista, in $105,000 dress, million-dollar shoes and bad hair, walks down the aisle. They start the ceremony and, before the vows, commercial! When they returned, at least she didn’t say, “I do, thanks to my new T-Mobile phone!”
