Daniel Daley, 51, a deaf social worker from Evanston who helped others hard of hearing, died of liver cancer Sunday, Dec. 7, in his home. Deaf since he was a young child, Mr. Daley, born and raised in Chicago, moved to Washington to attend Gallaudet University, where he met his first wife. After college, Mr. Daley worked in the print shop at the Pentagon and at residential facilities for people with disabilities on the East Coast before returning to Chicago, said his brother, Bill. Mr. Daley started working at the Anixter Center in 1993, an organization that provides services to people with disabilities. A short time later, Mr. Daley divorced his first wife. While a work production manager and transportation manager, Mr. Daley met Beverly Otey, a fellow social worker who ran the center’s training program, said Carol Woodworth, the center’s vice president for programming. They were soon married, Woodworth said. “Lots of people talked about how they had a great marriage and were very devoted to each other,” she said. Survivors also include a son, Tim; a daughter, Melissa Arduini; a stepson, Joshua Will; two sisters, Gina Purpura and Eileen Holderbaum; a brother, Dennis and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church, 1630 Hinman Ave., Evanston.
