Charlize Theron’s performance as serial-killing prostitute Aileen Wuornos in her upcoming movie “Monster” may be a breakout role in more ways than one.
Not only did she pack on 25 pounds and spend countless hours in the makeup trailer to transform herself into Wuornos, Theron also tackled the task of being a first-time producer.
“I took that job really seriously,” she told “Extra” about her foray into producing. The statuesque actress, known more for playing the heroine roles, said the challenges of making the gritty “Monster” were well worth the risk.
“It came to me in a time in my life when I really had to sit back and reflect on my career, and I had never done anything like this.”
“Monster” co-stars Christina Ricci and opens nationwide Jan. 9.
