Rick Morrissey is way off base with his column concerning Dick Jauron (Tribune, Dec. 12), who is certainly a major part of the problem with the Bears.

Morrissey wrote that the Bears “have very little to work with in player talent.” If the Bears have enough talent to beat Denver in Denver (only for Denver to turn right around and dismantle the Chiefs, who some are calling the best team in football), then they have enough talent to compete (seriously) for a playoff spot in a very weak NFC North.

Secondly, if Dick Jauron fails to see that John Shoop is an anchor around his team’s neck, then absolutely he’s a major part of the problem himself. Parity rules the day in the NFL, and coaching is more important than ever–look at what Bill Belichick is doing in New England with as many injuries as the Bears had in ’02.
