John K. Regan was a Marine with a sensitive side. “I just remember driving around with him and listening to classical music,” said his daughter, Ruth. “I’d look over at him and he’d be crying a little bit.” Mr. Regan, 70, died from a fall after a heart attack Wednesday, Dec. 10, at his home in Wauconda. Born in Baltimore, Mr. Regan was adopted and raised in Endicott, N.Y., said his wife, Nancy. He served in Korea with the Marines. Mr. Regan received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago in 1959. He got a master’s degree from Illinois Institute of Technology. While attending school, Mr. Regan worked as an illustrator for the Chicago Tribune. He married his first wife, Diana, in 1959. They had two children, divorcing in 1980. In 1961, Mr. Regan became an arts teacher and spent most of his career at Evanston High School, where he taught photography and film. In 1974, he co-founded the Antique Toy and Doll World Show in St. Charles. In 1982, he married Nancy and they had two children. He retired from teaching in 1988. In addition to his wife and daughter, Ruth, survivors include two sons, Herbert and John; a daughter, Charlotte; and several grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
