Nightclub king Billy Dec is fiercely loyal to Chicago, and if a new reality series he’s planning comes to fruition, he’ll get to show his hometown off to the rest of the country next year.
A film crew followed Dec around Thursday on the first day of filming a TV pilot, which he hopes will be picked up by a major network.
The idea is to chronicle the opening of Dec’s latest venture, Rockit Bar and Grill, which is scheduled to open in the spring in River North. Filming will continue wherever Dec goes, including into the wee hours at his Rush Street nightclub LePassage.
“It has to do with a real Chicago guy [who] works hard and has a lot of problems like everyone else but also has this fantasy lifestyle that people perceive,” Dec said. “Not that I have it.”
