Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Shortly after I moved into a retirement home in Lincolnwood, a fellow resident persuaded me to sign up for a fall series of lectures on the Bible offered by the faculty of Northwestern University. The first lecture, on Genesis, was so stimulating it kept me awake later, so I got up and wrote a few lines of verse:

Do you know of the birth

of this planet called Earth?

Was it God who began

this magnificent plan?

In six days no less

Did it all coalesce?

Was Day 7 the best

For God to seek rest?

(And was he elated

at the world he created?)

What theory to accept:

Bible’s linear time concept?

Or Aristotle’s notion

of circular motion? AND

Must we never infer

though the Earth did occur

that there was a source

be it God or some Force?
