When Illinois played Memphis on Saturday night, backcourt star Deron Williams was on the bench in street clothes. His jaw was wired shut after it was fractured in two places when he was blindsided by a Maryland-Eastern Shore player’s screen two nights earlier.
In the dressing room before the game, Williams went to the board to write the following words of advice to his teammates:
“Please call out screens.”
