This is regarding “U.S. denies allies contracts in Iraq; France, Germany, other war foes kept out of rebuilding” (Page 1, Dec. 10). I’ll say one thing for the Bush administration: Its members don’t make much effort to hide their vindictiveness or their greed. Denying French, German and Russian companies the opportunity to bid on the lucrative contracts to rebuild Iraq highlights what the war was really about for many in the administration. The only attempt to hide their crass motives was Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz’s claim that this decision was made for national security. I could barely contain my laughter. Say, wasn’t that the excuse for starting this war in the first place (as well as virtually everything else this administration wishes to do)?
