As a teenager, Frances E. Parr took classes in child care because she loved looking after children. After graduating from Larkin High School, the lifelong Elgin resident started a child-care business in her home. “She helped raise a lot of children,” said her sister, Kathy Perrin. Ms. Parr, 43, died of complications from rheumatoid arthritis Sunday, Dec. 14, in her home in Elgin. She had suffered from arthritis since age 8, and in recent years switched from caring for infants to older children because of her illness. Even so, she still had several children coming to her home, her sister said. “She still kept in touch with a lot of the parents of the kids she helped raise,” her sister said. Other survivors include her father, William Dohm Jr.; two brothers, Larry and Bill Dohm; and another sister, Judy Sunderlage. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.
