I was delighted to read that the Cook County Board thwarted Cook County Board President John Stroger’s attempts to run the board as business as usual (“Board flexes muscles, and Stroger backs off; Cook County president delays budget vote,” Metro, Dec. 10).
It does not delight me, however, that we have allowed the new Cook County Hospital to be named after Stroger.
It is my sincerest hope that the people of Illinois will no longer allow public places to be named after politicians. We should name all schools, buildings, parks and streets and highways after those dedicated public servants who have given their lives in the line of duty–those in the military, police officers and firefighters. They deserve this honor; politicians do not.
