This is regarding “Loaded for bear in N.J.; Activists square off with hunters and state wildlife officials, who have declared the animals a menace” (Page 1, Dec. 11). Overpopulation is not good for animals or humans. Here’s a cruelty-free solution: Create a trap-neuter-release program similar to ones used for feral cats. The hunters could have their “sport” by shooting the bears with tranquilizer darts, transporting them to vets to be spayed or neutered and then returning them to their homes. Compassionate taxpayers would foot the bill.
