The idea of lifting 13 people through a giant spider web made of rope and strung between two trees might seem daunting at first.
“But we did it,” said Mary Laschinski, a dental assistant for Campbell-Schmidt Family Dentistry in Lake Forest.
Laschinski, her co-workers and her bosses–dentists David Schmidt and Douglas Campbell–made up the first group to try Lake Forest’s new “teams course” at Northcroft Park, 1365 S. Ridge Rd.
The course, designed to attract groups of all ages interested in honing their togetherness skills by overcoming challenges meant to build trust, began in October.
The city spent $10,000 building the course. Officials hope it will eventually pay for itself through visits by various groups. The four-hour course costs $250 for a group of 15 local residents.
“The concept is to go through these experiences in a non-threatening, fun environment, and then sit down and relate it to the real world,” said Fred Jackson, director of the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Department. “It’s pretty enlightening.”
